Dogs Can Smell Stress
Today, I want to talk about dogs. Dogs can smell really well. They can smell
at least 10,000 times better than people! 狗狗的嗅覺比人類好一千倍！
Dogs can smell lots of things that humans can't. There are dogs at airports.
They use their noses to smell things that people shouldn't be carrying onto
airplanes, which helps to keep everyone safe.
機場就會有狗狗去聞聞看，有沒有人帶違法的東西上飛機。
There is a new study by a university in the UK. It says dogs can also smell
when people feel stress.
現在一個英國的大學說，狗狗可以聞到人類的壓力！
In the study, there were 36 people and four dogs. The people did a stressful
activity. These people had to count backwards. They had to count backwards
from 9,000. Wow, that's hard!
有36個人跟4隻狗參加這個研究。這些人要做一件壓力很大的事情，他們要從九千倒數回去。
The dogs smelled the people's breath and sweat before the people counted
backwards. Then they also smelled the people's breath after they had counted,
so the scientists could test the dog's noses.
狗狗在人們數數的前後都去聞他們的呼吸跟汗味。然後科學家會去檢查狗狗的鼻子。
And guess what? The dogs could smell the stress! They knew from their breath
and sweat who was stressed and who was not!
結果他們發現，狗狗可以透過聞呼吸跟汗味，知道誰有壓力誰沒有！
Wow! Dogs are really great!
